Great Careers Begin with Successful Interviews

Great Careers Begin with Successful Interviews
  • Opening Intro -

It's a very competitive field out there and rarely do you have second chances for getting it right in job interviews.

It is a good idea to visit reliable and reputed career guidance portals such as Sarvgyan that offers fruitful advice and equips you well not only to face interviews efficiently, but also, with useful tips to build and shape a successful career. When interviewers are out to get the smartest and the best for the job profile, here’s a few tips that will help you getting past the goalposts successfully.

Dress appropriately

The liberal and often seemingly-casual corporate attitude can often fool you into thinking that anything goes for an interview as far as dress codes go. It is always better to be slightly conservative keeping in mind the culture of the organization and the position that you are applying to. If you really can’t decide what is appropriate, you could even call them up and ask them about the expected dress code.

Listen to the Interviewer

During the course of the interview, you will be asked for a lot many responses. You should be able to respond appropriately only if you listen carefully to what the interviewer is saying. Show that you can communicate well by indicating that you have heard and understood what is being said and that you are giving well-thought-out responses. Observe carefully the interviewer and try and match his pace and style.

Limit Your Responses

Avoid the tendency to talk too much to show that you know a lot. It is quite easy to fall into traps laid deliberately by the interviewer and start giving replies that are clearly out of context. It is a good idea to read about the company, its industry, expected job responsibilities relating to the position so that you can talk knowledgeably.

Avoid Excessive Familiarity and Use Appropriate Language

Even though the interviewer may appear to be laid back and informal, it is always a good idea for you to be a little formal and conservative and avoid the tendency to be over-familiar. Show a lot of enthusiasm but do not cross hidden limits of behavior; you are there to get a job, not to make a new friend. Do not use slang or display biases of any kind. Be confident, but never arrogant as that will always go against you.

Answer Questions Adequately

When asked about past experience or how a situation is to be handled, try and work out a reasonable answer. Failing to reply coherently or suggesting something patently ridiculous almost always point to a lack of depth, experience and strategic thinking. Look upon these questions as a fantastic opportunity for demonstrating your skills.

Tell Why They Should Hire You

Never lose out on the opportunity to tell them about your key skills and how you could deliver value to the company. Be sure to quote some examples of outstanding achievements of your past career that bolster the key skills that you want to project. Be sure to have at least three points regarding your talent that you can use to sell yourself. Never appear desperate for the job or try to impress them with sob stories.

Ask the Interviewer Questions

In most cases, candidates are given an opportunity to ask questions. Be ready to ask a few pertinent questions that demonstrate your keenness to learn about the company, and how they face various issues. It is best not to ask anything about remuneration or perks unless you are specifically asked to do so.

Remember Your Manners

When interviewers are meeting a lot of candidates during the day, what will set you apart is your confidence, demonstration of proven skills, how you have prepared for the interview and above all your manners displayed throughout the interview and at the time of the conclusion of the discussion. Make it a point to send them a polite thank you note for getting the opportunity to meet them and remind them of the highlights of your profile.
