4 Types of Junk You Can Get Paid to Get Rid Of
  • Opening Intro -

If you've noticed that you've got too much junk piling up around your house, you may be wondering what you can do with it.

While taking it to the dump is always a viable option, this may be costly, especially if you have multiple loads. The good news is that some types of junk still have value and can make you money when you get rid of it.

To help you clean up your property and make some money in the process, here are four of the most valuable types of junk.

Old Appliances

If you’ve got old refrigerators, washers, stoves, and other old appliances that can’t be repaired, you know how much space they occupy. Fortunately, the metal in these appliances has some value, meaning that it’s a smart idea to scrap these ancient home helpers so that you can make a few bucks.

If you scrap a refrigerator, be sure to follow all of the applicable local laws since refrigerators contain refrigerant that could be harmful to the environment if it’s improperly disposed of.

Broken-Down Cars

Even if you’re handy with car repairs, there are some cars that can’t be saved. As the vehicles sit around and rot, you may be thinking, “would anyone really want to buy my junk car?” Fortunately, the answer to that question is “yes.”

Since the metal in the car and some of its separate parts have inherent value, there are plenty of people who would be happy to pay to take your junk car off your hands.

Just be sure to get the title out of your name so that you no longer have to pay taxes on the vehicle.

If you have a large stack of wood on your property, it may be good for more than attracting snakes and mice. If the wood is safe to burn, you may be able to sell it to someone with a wood-burning fireplace.

Wood that has been sitting for a few years is more valuable because it will burn better than wood that has just been cut.

Due to problems with tree diseases, there are some types of wood that are illegal to move across state lines. Therefore, if you live near a state border, it’s important to find out definitively what type of wood you’re selling.

Scrap Metal

Old bedsprings, fence posts, satellite dishes, and other types of junk may not seem to have much value. However, anything that’s made of metal will always have at least a minimal inherent value.

other valuable tips:

If you can collect enough metal items, you may be able to make a nice chunk of change at a local scrap recycler. However, if you don’t have a big load, you can always leave the metal out by the street for someone else to collect.

As you can see, when it comes to getting rid of your old items, the dump should be a last resort. If you know where to dispose of your items, you can turn your trash into treasure, all while helping the environment.

Therefore, the next time you take a walk around your backyard, instead of seeing a bunch of junk, you should walk around and see a bunch of dollar signs.
