Save the Piggy Bank: Easy Ways the Family Can Save Money

Save the Piggy Bank: Easy Ways the Family Can Save Money
  • Opening Intro -

If you're like many families, you're trying to find ways to save money.

It can be tricky to save money in a family, especially when children are involved.

Though it can be hard, here are a few ways that you can save some extra cash and help you find a brighter financial future.

Meal Planning

Fast food is a surprisingly expensive venture. Those dollar menus and deals may seem a cheaper alternative to feeding your family, however you will find over time that fast food is more expensive than planning out your meals.

If you plan your meals before you go shopping and use coupons, then you can prepare two or three meals during the week for the same price you spend on one at a fast food restaurant. Coordinate your shopping list and meals with the items that are on sale and with the coupons that you have. Not only are you saving money but you are planning healthier meals for your family.

Shop Online

You can usually find more deals online for everything from clothing to wallets and accessories, like those from Over Under Clothing. Many stores offer discounts if you sign up to receive a newsletter in your email or if you use a certain code. Another benefit of shopping online is that you won’t use the gas in your car to get to the store and back home, allowing you to use that amount to get back and forth to work or somewhere important for an extra day or two. However, be careful so you do not start spending money just because you have found an online deal.

Save on Entertaining

Find different ways to entertain yourselves. Instead of going out to the movies with your friends invite them over to spend time together. Get creative! Play board games with each other, have family movie night, or simply enjoy time outside with each other. This is a simple step but you will find yourself spending less and spending more time together.

Buy Used

You don’t have to stop buying things for yourself, but be smarter about where you spend it. Visit your local secondhand stores to save some extra money. You can usually find items for a fraction of the price of a new piece of furniture or accessory for the home that you can refurbish and turn into your own creation. When you shop at secondhand stores you can often get a complete seasonal wardrobe for everyone in the home for about the same price that you would spend on a few items in a retail store.

Saving money can seem like a daunting task, but it is best to start with simple solutions. Step by step you will begin to save more money and begin to have more control over your finances. These steps are only your first steps to a more stable financial future.
