Tight On A Budget? 3 Fun Summer Activities That Are Still Fairly Affordable
  • Opening Intro -

The good news is that there are plenty of activities that you can afford to take part in whether you are heading out by yourself or looking to spend some time with the kids while they are out of school.

-------------------------------------

Spend A Week In The Wilderness

Oftentimes there are dozens of state, local or national parks within a few hours’ drive of wherever you happen to live. In most cases, your largest expense will be the fee that you pay to get into the park or for a spot on a private camp ground. You should also plan extra money to spend on gas to get to your destination and food to eat.

If you don’t have your own tent or other basic camping gear, some sites will provide that equipment for you. It is also possible for parks or campsites to have general stores where you can buy food or other items if you don’t feel like loading up the car ahead of time.

Take In A Local Sporting Event

Most leagues tend to have their regular seasons during the months of April through October. If you are a baseball or soccer fan, it is likely that you will be able to catch your local team play at least once during the summer. Both weekday and weekend dates may be available to best fit with your schedule, and afternoon games may be less expensive than night or weekend games.

The end of July and early August are when NFL training camps start. Most practices are open to the public and cost $10 or less to get into. In some cases, you may need to pay a dollar or two for a shuttle bus from a parking area to the practice itself. It is common for teams to have games and other attractions to keep the kids occupied if they aren’t interested in watching drills for more than a few minutes. Autograph sessions may also take place before or after practices.

Go To The Aquarium

If you like animals, you should plan a trip to a local aquarium to watch dolphins or whales swim, play and interact with their human admirers. Many aquariums, like this one offering family fun in Utah, have various activities and educational resources for your children to enjoy. Kids may be allowed to touch or even feed the animals, which makes the experience that much more memorable and interesting. Live shows can help both kids and adults learn more about the creatures that spend their time under water.

The aquarium may also have separate exhibits showcasing birds and other animals from around the world as well. This may make it the perfect spot for a birthday party or an outing with friends on a hot summer afternoon. It is generally a good idea to call ahead when planning an event to make sure that it is appropriate for everyone who wishes to attend. Calling ahead may also make it easier to plan an event that stays within everyone’s budget.

No matter what your budget is, there are many ways to have fun and enjoy summer without going broke. Whether you want to interact with animals, spend some time camping with the kids or take in a baseball game, you can have fun without having to travel hundreds of miles or spend hundreds of dollars. All you need is a sense of adventure and people worth sharing your time with.
