8 Tips to Save Money on Your Next Business Trip
  • Opening Intro -

Business travelers who are looking to save money can often do so without having to sacrifice the trip's quality.

-------------------------------------

In order to maximize your savings the next time you pack your bags, here are eight tips you’re going to want to keep in mind —

1. Skip the Dinner

Dinner prices at a restaurant are often 30 percent more than a lunch. If you have the time to do so, try to eat your lunch as late in the day as possible.

2. Skip Eating Out

If you don’t like paying a ton of money when eating out, consider cooking in your hotel room. When you get off the plane, hit up a local grocery store and stock up for the trip. Hotel chains, such as Homestyle Suites, offer temporary furnished apartments that have fully stocked kitchens to make cooking easier than ever.

3. Book Direct

Most of the time, you’re going to save the most money when you call up the hotel directly; however, this isn’t always the case. As a general rule of thumb, compare two booking websites and the hotel. This same strategy can also be applied to car rentals.

4. Buy a Cellphone Hotspot

Today, most hotels have a WiFi — at a cost. If you want to avoid paying more than $10 a day for Internet access, consider buying a hotspot for your phone. By going this route, you’ll be able to use the Internet anywhere without paying those pesky fees.

5. Take Advantage of Gift Card Discounts

Many third-party websites cater to selling gift cards at a significant discounts. Before you book a hotel room, dinner reservation or rental car, check out these gift card websites to see savings of more than 10 percent.

6. Avoid the Car Rental

If you’re going to be doing business in a popular city, consider skipping out on the rental car and using ride share programs. In today’s app-savvy world, there are a handful of apps that can send a car to pick you up in minutes.

7. Prepare

Booking last-minute airline tickets can be very expensive. Every year, try to create an itinerary for the year so that you know exactly where you’re going. The earlier you’re able to plan a trip, the more you’re going to probably save.

8. Take Advantage of Credit Cards

If you’re going to spend money on your business trip, consider signing up for a business credit card with an aggressive rewards program.
