Many people have started a successful business from their garage or a spare room in their home. It’s what I call a Home Based Micro Business(a HMB).
There are many things you can do – e.g. music, freelance writing, all sorts of tuition, backyard computers, backyard mechanics, gardening, cleaning, sewing, etc. To get started, all you need is an idea and a simple plan of attack.
The example I have chosen is that of a struggling pensioner who wishes to earn a few dollars by doing home support and maintenance.. To start with, he(she) just needs to write out a list of his abilities and put an ad in the paper or local shopping centre.
The ad might look like this
HOME SUPPORT & MAINTENANCE

Gardening, Cleaning, Shopping, Budget & Finance & Other Matters
-

It’s best to advertise in your local area because that’s where most people feel safe. It’s also easier to develop a good reputation.
Have you ever noticed how many TV news items emphasize the “local angle?” For example “a local researcher or local inventor has etc.” The news readers know that it’s the local angle that sells the story!
Another good way of getting clients is by just ringing random numbers in your phone book. It works by percentages. If the person who answers the phone talks nicely, then there’s a good chance that they’re interested
“It’s not what you know but who you know” is another golden rule! Simply ask the people you know for work leads. It’s called “networking”
other valuable readings:
Once you have got your first customer it is good to establish good communication skills. Simply agree with everything they say and add a little extra. Sound interested in what they want!
Unfortunately, some people just don’t want to pay at all – let alone pay on time. The world has always been like that! Impress upon them that you do a good job in good faith and that you would like to be paid in the same way. Most people will accept that. If you work for yourself and a customer gives you a hard time, than you are in a good position to kiss them good-bye.
There are many advantages to having a home based micro business and working for yourself. You handle your own finance, do your own books, and work your own hours You are your own boss! A nice little financial bonus!
