Outlet Shopping: Real or Imagined Bargains?

Outlet Shopping: Real or Imagined Bargains?

-------------------------------------

I live in North Carolina, a state known for its many outlet shopping destinations. That probably has something to do with it being home to hundreds of textile mills, or at least it was until the industry dried up and moved offshore to China. Today, those same mills are mostly abandoned or have been converted to other use.

Packed Stores

one dollarOutlet malls can be found across the country, repositories for excess and remaindered goods. Not all places offer up significant savings, but many do. Drive past any outlet shopping location and you’ll typically find the parking lot filled to capacity with bargain seekers sifting through aisles upon aisles of low priced inventory.

But are all outlet malls equal? What can customers look for in the way of bargains? To get answers to these and other questions, we turned to Samantha Daggett of Legends at Sparks Marina, the Reno, Nevada outlet shopping mall featuring such notable brand names as Banana Republic, Adidas and Tommy Hilfiger.

Legends Lessons

Daggett has tailored her “Legends Lessons” to cover what a buyer would find at her outlets, but you can apply much of what she said wherever you choose to shop.

Visit the Website: Visit www.experiencelegends.com to learn about the layout of the center, its merchant mix, and special sale events taking place at your favorite stores. Be sure to join the center’s VIP Club and also download store coupons, available only online, for additional saving opportunities.

Check-out Guest Services: Before shopping, stop at the center’s Management Office for information about the center’s latest promotions and to pick-up an outlet center coupon book filled with even more savings opportunities.

Hit the Racks in the Back: Upon entering a store, head straight to the back to find the best deals! After all, many stores have their new merchandise displayed in the front of the store and the clearance racks, with the most dramatic markdowns and savings, in the back.

Read the Tag: Often the price noted on the tag is actually lower than marked. Be sure to double check store signage and always ask a sales associate if an extra discount applies.

Ship it Home: Never let the size of your suitcase deter you from buying the perfect pair of shoes or designer handbag ever again! A little known fact about the outlets is that many stores will ship your purchases to your home for a minimal fee. Whether packing the car or your suitcase, free yourself from the burden of extra packages by taking advantage of this very practical service.

Significant Savings

Said Daggett, “Shoppers continue to be amazed not only with the quality and selection of merchandise that today’s outlet centers offer, but with the significant savings they find on their favorite brands.”
