After a couple of years of not doing it, the commute to work can feel worse than ever. If you’ve been struggling to make it through your drive, we have some tips on how to make your daily commute more bearable.
Maybe, you can even find a way to learn to love it.
Set Up “Phone Dates”
One of the things that make commuting so boring is that you’re sitting alone in your car. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. Most modern vehicles make it simple to talk on the phone while driving, so why not take advantage of that?
You can call up your significant other, friends you have talked to in a while, or some coworkers making the same commute you are. You can use this time to talk about anything you normally would when you’d typically meet up with them.
If you want to get serious about this, you can even schedule these “phone dates” out. That way, you never really have to be alone.
Try Audio Journaling
If you don’t like talking on the phone or don’t have many people you can call, try talking to yourself instead. Using a voice memo app on your phone, you can spend your drive reviewing how your day went and what you want to do when you get home.
You never need to go back and listen to these if you don’t want to, but it’s an excellent way to get your thoughts out there, like journaling with a notebook.
Some people might find this experience a little off-putting at first. However, if you keep at it, it’ll start to feel more natural, and you’ll be audio-journalling every day after work.
Discover Some New Music
Of course, you can simply do what people have done for years during their commute: listen to music. However, because you now have control over what you listen to instead of the radio station, your commute will be the perfect time to discover new music.
Put on the top tracks of a new artist or curate a station based on one of your favorite songs. Regardless of how you go about it, listening to new music will help make your drive more interesting than listening to the same playlist for the hundredth time.
Consider an Electric Car
The final way you can help make your daily commute more bearable is to buy an electric car. Obviously, the money you save on gas will be quite noticeable. Plus, EV maintenance differs quite extensively from gas car maintenance, so you’ll save some money there too.

However, the main reason why we’d recommend considering an EV is due to the auto-drive feature that many of them have.
While you’ll still need to change lanes yourself and keep an eye on the road, not having to worry about steering, accelerating, or braking will transform your commute. With this feature, driving will become much less of a burden and more of a time to relax.
