Some first-time renters and owners stick with the bare necessities for interior design until they can afford more.
Typically, you don’t need to do this. You can make your apartment feel warm and welcoming without hurting your wallet.
Here are some tips for decorating and designing your apartment on a budget.

Create a Theme
If you don’t have a theme for your home, you’ll end up buying things you don’t need. We all know how easy it is to go inside a home store and get lost in wonder.
You’ll end up leaving with seven items you didn’t even need. Come up with a theme for your apartment. That way, when it’s time to start shopping, you won’t deviate from the vision.
With every piece, you’ll stop and think, “Does this go with the look I want?” If you’re struggling to picture an item in your space, put it down. Always go shopping with a list so you stick with the budget.
Focus on the Walls
Wall art is cheap and can make a space look bigger than it really is. Some people think bare walls make homes look roomier, but they actually have the opposite effect.
And you don’t need to stick with art for the walls. You can even add mirrors because they do the same trick.
If you want to spend even less money, think about painting a wall. An accent wall can tie a whole room together. It makes more of a warm vibe.
Make sure you choose a color that is vibrant but not too loud. The color still needs to work with the rest of the furniture.
Find the Deals
While you’re looking for pieces to decorate your home, remember that there are places to shop other than name-brand stores. Check out your local thrift and secondhand stores.
You’d be surprised to find the treasures in there. Remember that furniture doesn’t always have to come from furniture stores.
You could even consider dumpster diving for it. Though it may sound like an off-putting activity at first, you can find some great pieces and don’t need to worry about paying for them.
Go Room to Room
Don’t try to decorate your entire apartment at once. All that will do is break your bank account. Do a little bit at a time, going from room to room.
First, focus on the most important areas. Your bedroom and kitchen should be first, then the living room, then the bathroom.
Set aside some money every month for a shopping trip for that specific room. By the end of the year, your whole apartment will be fully decorated.
It’s easy to decorate and design your apartment on a budget. All it takes is patience and vision.
