Education

Before you can think about qualifying for the test, you first need to get the requisite hours of education. For this exam, you have to have at least 150 semester hours of accounting, which is about thirty hours more than any Bachelor’s degree offers. Therefore, you will have to figure out a way to make up the difference.

In some cases, the state will also require that you take a certain number of accounting and business classes. This is because the exam covers four areas of accounting, including business environments. You will have to look up your state’s requirements to see how many of these courses you will need.

For example, California requires that you get your education in California. 24 semester hours of accounting courses, 24 hours of business related courses, 20 hours in accounting study, 10 semester hours in ethics. Because these requirements are higher than most accounting degrees, many student will have to do summer school after graduation. You can take CPA related course to cover some of these extra requirements.

Passing the Test

Once you have fulfilled the education requirements for your state, then you are eligible to take the test. However, this exam is well-known for how difficult it is, and less than half of the people taking it will pass. Roughly about 40% of people who take the CPA exam for the first time will pass.
