Breaking Into The Surprisingly Exciting World of Accountancy

-------------------------------------

Yeah, yeah, accountancy might not seem like the sexiest of positions, everyone knows that. But, take a look past your stereotypical view of accountants – all grey-suited, middle-aged men, crunching numbers and speaking in binary boredom – and view the profession as it actually exists.

In the world of accountancy, numerous taxation jobs are available that allow for a large level of complex thought to keep that brain ticking. While dry work, it’s dry in the sense of a compelling Sudoku puzzle or a rigorous episode of Mastermind, rather than simply like watching paint dry.

What’s more, it’s not a job without its rewards, with top finance professionals earning sizeable salaries and numerous perks such as company cars and lump sum bonuses should they carry out their duties sufficiently.

See – not quite so drab now, is it?

That’s right, where money’s concerned, a job in accounting could be what you’re after. But, breaking into the industry isn’t as simple as handing in an application form and keeping your fingers crossed.

Earning your way to a position in accountancy

Instead, you’ll find it’s necessary to work for that big fat salary, earning a degree in some form of mathematics – accountancy, economics, maths, finance or business with finance are all valid options – and having an already natural aptitude towards numbers.

While you don’t have to be Alan Turing or Rene Descartes to be successful in accountancy, a sharp mind and a wide-ranging knowledge of calculating figures on computers would be, naturally, advantageous if you’re aiming for a long term position.

Once you’ve procured that all-important degree, the next step is to get your way into a recruitment programme from one of the major firms in the accountancy business.

They’ll be searching for those with a 2:1 or above in their degree qualification, so make sure you’ve not just slacked your way through university if you want to make it ahead in the accounting game.

The countless perks of accountancy

After that, a lot of your work will involve testing your brain against those tricky number puzzles and all the other complex challenges that a position in accountancy can bring.

Like most highly skilled jobs, there will always be the chance to get onto next rung of the ladder, earning markedly more dough and being treated to a greater array of benefits.

As with most jobs featuring the perks that accountancy has, it isn’t an easy position to break into, but with the correct qualifications and a watertight aptitude for arithmetic and mathematics, you’ll find that all of your number-crunching commitment will pay off.

So, remove that dullard image of an accountant from your mind and think of all the benefits that could be had from a position in the world of finance.
