5 Once-In-A-Lifetime Experiences You Could Offer To Your Children

-------------------------------------

Being a kid is great. Kids are excited by the endless possibilities of life. They’re always looking for opportunities to explore, learn, and grow.

Being a parent, in today’s demanding and fast-paced culture, can be really challenging. We want our children to be balanced and well-rounded. We want to give them meaningful, high-quality experiences that will both strengthen family ties and shape them as individuals. Here are a few suggestions of once-in-a-lifetime experiences you could offer to your children that will become their favorite childhood memories as they themselves grow into adults.

Camp together as a family at one of America’s national parks

The United States has several beautiful, family-friendly national parks. Acadia National Park in Maine boasts gorgeous mountain hiking and biking trails, and panoramic views of Maine’s coast. Yellowstone National Park spans three states and is home to world-famous wildlife. Camping as a family is something every kid should experience, and doing it in a gorgeous national park will make it truly unforgettable.

Spend part of the summer at a unique summer camp

Summer camp is one of the best experiences you can give your child. Whether it’s for one week or six, summer camp allows children to learn skills that can’t be matched anywhere else. What makes summer camp a once-in-a-lifetime experience though, is when the camp has a specific focus on your child’s passion. You can find music, art, sports, or science summer camps to suit your child’s particular interest.  A specialized summer camp could give your child some amazing opportunities.

Immerse your family in another culture

Take a family trip to Puerto Rico, Mexico, or Quebec if you’re looking for someplace not too far from home. Even within large cities you can give your children a taste of a different culture. San Francisco’s Chinatown is one excellent example. It’s important for kids to appreciate and celebrate the fact that the world is made up of many different kinds of people. You can help them to learn about the language and culture before your trip and then watch them be amazed when they see all that they’ve learned come to life. You could also host an exchange student or encourage your child to participate in an exchange.

Take your kids to a Broadway show

Kids are bombarded with media today, from movies to TV to the internet and smart phones. Taking them to see real people, performing live at an astonishing level of talent, will give them an example of the very best in artistic achievement. Live family-friendly theater on Broadway, with stunning music and visual displays, is a truly amazing thing to experience.

Do something adventurous and daring together

Whether it’s sky-diving or whitewater rafting, surfing in Hawaii or rock climbing in Colorado, get your kids out of their comfort zone and doing something that will make their hearts pound. Once they discover that they can actually do it, it will become fun instead of scary and they will have the time of their lives. While you obviously should ensure that your child is safe, this kind of activity early in life can help build their confidence.

Whatever your budget and whatever your interests, it’s important to encourage your kids to pursue their passions. There are so many opportunities out there for parents to create rewarding, exciting experiences that their kids will never forget.
