Off Season Traveling: How It Can Save You Money

Off Season Traveling: How It Can Save You Money

-------------------------------------

By Ryan Embly

The summer travel season is over but your family wants to get in one last vacation before winter. If the seasonal rains haven’t arrived yet, you know that it’s coming, so it’s time to get out of town for a little vacation.

Off-season travel is a perfect way to see another place without having to pay the big bucks. Flights are more affordable, hotels offer special coupons and promos and there are seasonal discounts in lots of other areas too. Sometimes the weather might not be the best and some of the local attractions may be closed, but you can still have a great trip while saving a lot of money.

Slower Pace, Friendly Faces

Some tourist destinations are a nightmare during their peak seasons. There is no place to park your car or walk or breath without running into more tourists and people trying to sell you stuff. It is one of the reasons why some “locals” hate living in towns that see a migration of vacationers during certain times of the year. It’s just easier and quicker to do simple tasks without big lineups on the road and in stores.

These are just a few reasons why off-season travel means friendlier faces and a slower pace. Some others: When you and your family arrive in the off-season, you’re not just a person that is there to buy something – you’re a real person and you will notice the difference in the way that vendors and tour guides treat you. Not only will you save money, but you’ll also get more personalized service and information.

If you’re interested in biking adventures or hiking trails you might visit a ski town in the summer. The deals and the friendly faces will be waiting.

Hotels and Airlines

When you’re traveling in the off-season you’ll find plenty of hotels and airlines that are looking to fill their empty seats and rooms. These are the same rooms and seats that were taken up only a few months earlier – during the high travel season. The prices have gone down, but the quality remains the same so look around for some good deals.

Go online to find a cheap flight, but you may want to speak with a travel agent before you book your trip. There aren’t as many travel agents as there once were, due to the popularity of booking online, which means that most of the travel agents that are still working have to try extra hard to please their customers. Don’t just look at one source either – try to find a few different options and change your travel dates slightly if it means you will save significantly.

Lovely Places

One example of great off-season savings is how upscale condos in winter destinations like Aspen, Colorado, will only charge 50 percent of their regular fees during the summer season. You might have trouble skiing down the hills, but the city is no less beautiful or fun during the summer months.

Whatever your travel plans are for the off-season, do a little research and you should find a great vacation well within your budget.
