Cell Phones For Troops? Good Idea!

-------------------------------------

Making a difference for America’s forces.

Members of America’s Armed Forces hardly get the respect (or thanks) they deserve. Putting their lives on the line to help preserve freedom, these men and women are often caught between competing political interests. In the meantime, their personal needs are often minimized or simply overlooked.

Not everyone has forgotten our military personnel as several organizations are advocating on behalf of them. One non-profit organization, Cell Phones for Soldiers, is asking Americans to donate their used cell phones to provide a way for military members to call home.

Calling Cards

For security purposes these phones are not sent to our troops. However, they are sold and turned into free calling card minutes for soldiers. The program has been so successful that 12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas was collected in 2008.

Donated cell phones are sent to ReCellular — a cell phone recycling company which pays Cell Phones for Soldiers for every phone donated — enough to provide an hour of talk time to soldiers abroad.

Draw Stuffers

“Americans will replace an estimated 130 million cell phones this year,” says Mike Newman, vice president of ReCellular, “with the majority of phones either discarded or stuffed in a drawer.  Most people don’t realize that the small sacrifice of donating their unwanted phones can have a tremendous benefit for a worthy cause like Cell Phones for Soldiers.”

Cell Phones for Soldiers will take any phone including that clunky 2G Motorola you have in a box up in your attic. You can even remove your personal data from your cell phone before you donate to ensure that your information doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.

In addition to cell phone donations, Cell Phones for Soldiers accepts cash donations. Your gift is tax deductible and the monies used will help fund this important program.

You can learn about drop off locations in your area by visiting the Cell Phones for Soldiers website or send your phone directly to Recellular:
